Purpose:
Nov. 11th is Remembrance Day whose theme of ‘Lest we forget!’ continues to be heard all these decades. It is a time of returning, reflection and remembering. It is celebrated 40 days before the 1 st day of winter.
The number 40 in numerology represents ‘a generation’ – one generation paid a price for our freedom and endured a winter of sorrow, freezing pain, and cold losses. Yet they endured it and pressed on to give us better days – buds of potential, blossoms of hope and full leaves of possibilities for a better future. We must continue to remember the price that was paid with our own blood.
On behalf of my generation – we also now see the need to recognize that it is time to celebrate our men and women who serve today – while they are with us. We have an opportunity to celebrate their life – while they live – they’re sacrificing for us now – the sacrifice began the day they entered the Canadian Armed Forces.
Along with my fellow classmates - I’m proposing we officially launch C.A.F.É Day (Canadian Armed Forces Encouragement Day) and ask that every grade 8 student in Canada lead their schools in a time of physically showing appreciation to our men and women who faithfully serve our country – so that we may wake up every day safely to be with our families and friends – to play, study, and grow in peace.
As we unite across this great nation of ours – we will work together to send a message loud and clear to our Canadian Armed Forces:
Our commitment to you - “We will Remember!”
Therefore on behalf of our Canadian Armed Forces and every grade 8 student in Canada – I submit today a formal proposal - that in honor of our men and women who serve in the military – that we set aside a day to celebrate, appreciate, and thank them for their daily commitment and sacrifice. In so doing this - we hope to instill in them - future hope and love as well as stirring up in them the real reason and purpose they do what they do which is to:
Stand on guard for our home and native land – Canada !
Join with me and my fellow classmates of Holy Redeemer Catholic School to mark March 21st – the 1st day of spring, as a time where we join together to keep our Canadian Armed Forces heart’s aglow – with purpose – with promise – and with possibilities – of a better and safer Canada!
They train and prepare to keep the true North – strong… and free!
Our nation’s sons and daughters have come across our land far and wide to stand on guard for one of the finest nations in the world – Canada!
We the Grade 8 students of Holy Redeemer Catholic School (the little school with the big heart) are asking that March 21 st like November 11 th - be set aside as a national day of thanksgiving, appreciation and celebration for those who even now continue to stand on guard for our country – Canada!
On behalf of a new generation of emerging Canadians: We would like to say to the men and women of our Canadian Armed Forces:
We will Remember!
We will Remember - As you stand on guard for:
Our land;
Our cities;
And our people.
This Day We Remember!
We are Canadian!
We are free!
And …WE ARE CANADA !
